The White Buffalo Need A New Home

Below is a message from the keepers of the white buffalo at Spirit Mountain Ranch in Arizona,  Jim & Dena.  Apparently Jim passed away last spring and Dena is trying to find a place to relocate with the herd.  I don’t know if how many of you may have been to see the buffalo but they really are amazing.  A lot of people have tried to  trash these people and say their buffalo are not true white buffalo.  They are however to my knowledge the ONLY white buffalo that have been DNA tested and proved to be pure bison.  For quite some time others who had a white born said the testing was too expensive, the problem came when the American Bison Association said they would test for free any buffalo that was born white or turned white.  Excuses were still made by others for not testing their buffalo.  The only reason for them not testing at this point is that they do not believe their buffalo are pure bison!  This herd is pure bison and now numbers 11 white buffalo along with an unknown number of brown buffalo.  Their space in Arizona is way too small and a harsh environment for both the buffalo and Dena, especially now that Jim has passed.

I can’t believe that there is not someone out there who has an appropriate space for Dena and the Buffalo!  This has actually been on my mind for several years and if I had the resources I would not hesitate to find an appropriate space myself!  When we first moved to Pagosa my nephew Eric started working at radio shack and found out his co-worker was Jim and Dena’s son James.  James was quite surprised that Eric knew about the buffalo and his aunt and uncle had been there to see them, he was used to having people think his family was crazy.  How sad is that?  One day I walked in to radio shack to return a rented movie and James was so excited, the white buffalo had been on the tonight show and he had recorded it on the hdtv setup in the store and was so happy to have someone walk in that would want to see it LOL

There has to be a solution available and I am asking the readers of the site to put out some energy for an appropriate solution to present itself before late into spring when I assume they would be expecting new births.

The family of the Sacred White Buffalo has grown at the Spirit Mountain Ranch and have severely outgrown the original small space, and the conditions at this location are harsh. The elevation is over 8,000 feet and all food and water must be trucked in which is extremely expensive. There are no utilities except a generator to supply electricity. There is no space for the White Buffalo to roam or run.

Jim and Dena Riley are the guardians, keepers and caretakers (and owners) of ELEVEN Sacred White Buffalo, located at their White Buffalo Sanctuary at Spirit Mountain Ranch, 20 miles northwest of Flagstaff, Arizona. A place that has been available for people of all nations to visit, honor, and offer prayers.

Tragically, our beloved Jim Riley died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, April 12, 2008. He was 64. He gave his life for his cherished White Buffalo and he understood their message and their mission. Both Jim and his beloved wife Dena have invested their life and savings for their White Buffalo family and to be able to share them with the world. Their gift is immense.

At the time of Jim’s death, Jim and Dena had been in the process searching for new land that would meet the requirements of the buffalo and where they would be allowed in the area.

The herd, now numbering ELEVEN White Buffalo include:
